On November 20th 2015, Twitter removed free access to the Tweet count. As a result Genesis Club Club Pro can no longer tell how many times a page URL has been tweeted. Twitter cite a platform change from Cassandra to Manhattan as the reason. It does seem a pretty foolish move as Twitter has left the playing field to other social platforms that allow you to show the popularity of your pages.
Now Twitter Stats Are Only For Those With Deep Pockets
The tweet statistics remain accessible via the Gnip (a Twitter acquisition in April 2014) Service but this will be prohibitively expensive for most businesses (reportedly $5000 per month and upwards). Industry analysts have called Twitter’s decision penny-wise, pound foolish with the anticipated advertising loss likely dwarfing any additional data access fees.
Plugin Implications – No Tweet Count
As for Genesis Club Pro, it can no longer show the tweet count, so it will just show the Twitter bird. This is appropriate and ironic, since that most social media developers think that giving the bird is indeed an apt response to Twitter’s decision.
